Illustration Friday: "Hollow" - うろ - "Uro"

Skogsrået is a charater from the Swedish folklore, and also known by different names and attributes across Scandinavia. She dwelles in the woods and looks like a perfectly normal, beautiful woman from the front, but she'll never turn her back on you, because then you'll see that her back is hollow, like an old tree. If she likes you, she'll bestow your hunt or cattle-herding with good luck. If she really likes you - and you're of the male persuasion - she'll seduce you and have you come back time and time again until she has completely drained you.

  3. A bit of a scary notion....so you want her to like you enough to make your cattle prosper, but not enough to have her suck you dry. Wonderful bit of folklore.

I really like the drawing too--very off-in-the-woods and otherworldly.

  6. Jessie and Coreopsis - Thank you for your comments! Creepy, yes, but knowing where to draw the line is often the question, isn't it! :D

Robin - Has there ever been a folklore story that wasn't just a bit dark? Hmm, worth looking into!

ArtSnark - ooh, gotta trip over to your place and see what you chose instead. :)
