Illustration Friday: "Rescue"; きゅうさい - kyuusai

The Myth of Ikaros actually starts before he was born, with his father, the famous inventor and artist; it ends with their escape from the Labyrinth of Minos. Daidalos engineered two pairs of wings made from feathers glued together with wax. He instructed his son to be careful not to damage the wings by flying too close to the sun.
But, being young, Ikaros didn't listen; the heat from the sun melted the wax on his wings and he fell into the sea. Later, Herakles, the great hero of Greek Mythology, found Ikaros and named the island where he buried the body Ikaria, and the sea around it, the Ikarian Sea, and that is what they are called still.
